What does faith look like? – M

How do you show your faith? That might sound funny, because our faith traditions are taught to us from our birth. But if you ask a Catholic from New York or a protestant from California, would you get the same answer?

If one said “their faith was to go to church and kneel in front of an altar and prayed to a cross, would that be odd to you? “

Or if another said, “my faith is kneeling next to my bed and praying to (an image of Christ, a painting of Christ, a statue of Christ). “

Or if another said, “I kneel at the altar to receive more knowledge in the temple .”

Would any feel odd to you? Or can we see the beauty in the difference? And yet, is any view less worthy of praise?

I used to think there was a proper way to say prayers on the food, bedtime prayers, good morning prayers, church prayers, and blessings. Yet as I moved around the country, I have dined with other members of my faith and come to find we all pray differently . Some families say bedtime prayers exactly at the same time every day. Others have bedtime prayers less formally.

Then I look at those faiths that say prayers 5 times a day using prayer rugs to make it more formal. And I wonder if I should adopt some of the consistency.

There are so many ways to worship Him. Just because it is unfamiliar doesn’t make it wrong. See the beauty in the difference.
