Losing our Lives in the Service of Others – M

This blog highlights my thoughts on the scripture in the New Testament speaking of when we lose our life in the service of others, we actually find it. There is a similar scripture in the book of Mosiah stating “when we were in the service of others we are truly in the service of our God“

To me, the signifies that getting outside of ourselves is the best way to find ourselves. We often get so caught up in our feelings or emotions, that we miss the big picture.

And then often to reinforce this fall spot we reach out and help other people, and then cause a bigger mess than if we had just stayed silent. Or this is what we tell ourselves.

We then imprison ourselves in a cell of inadequacy, false hope and isolation. This isolation prevents us from seeing the bigger picture and letting the light in.

Christ was our perfect example and he led that example by doing good unto others. It is important to note that many times throughout the scriptures Christ went away unto himself to pray and reconnect to Heavenly Father. This suggests self healing.

Christ being omnipotent, having all power to control all the elements need to step away and recharge. I would suppose that his spirit didn’t need to recharge but the strain on his physical being needed a break from time to time.

So it is with us. We often need time to recharge not so much to isolate ourselves, but time to reconnect to heaven.

So I think that if we are taking time for ourselves to recharge, we need to then truly bask in the spirit. That to me indicates fasting and prayer and pondering, but probably the most important thing is to listen to the correct spirits. We need to come out and continue to serve others.

My wife does massage therapy and there are sometimes when she comes home completely recharged, animated, filled with light and love. There are times when she comes home exhausted, drained, and wants to give up. I’ve often thought about this difference. Why does she sometimes come home charged while other times completely drained.

As I question this I look at all the variables. Is it her clients? Her clients are always different with different personalities different emotions different struggles. Some are completely open while others are learning to be open. The one constant variable is my wife.

I think I know a lot about my wife, but there’s a lot I still don’t know. Scientist say that we know about 3% of the skies around the Earth. That means even the smartest astronomers don’t know 97% about the skies around us. This gives me hope. For I know that Heidi often does a lot of preparation before she works with a client. Most of the times when I see her fully prepared is when she puts her clients name on a prayer roll, prays for her clients the night before, ponders about how she can best help her client, prays with her client and gives the glory to Christ.

Even with all this preparation, sometimes she’ll come home, exhausted, and drained. She practices what she preaches. She will come home and connect to her Father in Heaven to let Him take her burdens.

And in the end, it is the peace that the spirit brings that calms the heart. The more we serve, the more we can rely on the Spirit to uplift us.
